Lab coats have been worn for the last hundred years. First adopted in the 19th century, lab coats were the distinctive dress of physicians and surgeons and were used to protect ones clothing from the hazards of their profession. Until the mid-1920s, the lab coat was predominately black to show respect for the dead. The black lab coat was also used by early biomedical and microbiology laboratories. The switch from white to black was to show purity and cleanliness.
Historical Emporium brings you our version of the "Howie" coat, known for the type of protective clothing that wraps around for full coverage. The bib styled asymmetrical front lends the style to many opportunities to wear. Perfect for reenactment, Halloween, or cosplay events. This coat maybe seen on Dr. Frankenstein from Mary Shelley and many adaptions of her novel or Dr. Horrible from Joss Whedon. Perhaps wear it in the vein of Penny Dreadful or something lighter like Dexter's Laboratory or Invader Zim.
We are proud of our selection of Howie Lab Coats, part of our complete Mad Scientist Collection. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please contact us and we will be happy to assist you.
